![]() ![]() I'm sure Denuvo will fuck over plenty of people in the future so DRM is still a shadow looming over the playability of your library in the future.ĭRM isn't a buzzword, it's a problem for game preservation and it's great you don't give a fuck but some people actually like to revisit their libraries and play older games and don't want to have to resort to using cracks to play games they paid for. Luckily we raised a big enough stink for them to fix it. Ubisoft fucked over a ton of people this year who owned Might & Magic X by shutting down a DRM server. This may not be exactly Steam's problem but it was bullshit I had to buy another copy of a game on a different store because of a shit DRM version sold on Steam. For instance, Crysis has a limited number of installs on Steam with SecuROM so I ended up buying the GOG version so I could revisit the game after hitting the installation limit on a few machines. /rebates/2fgame2fmajestygoldhd&252fgame252fmajestygoldhd26tc3dbing-&idgog&nameGOG&ra4. GOG. ![]() I have a few examples of publisher fuckery that killed games in my library on Steam, especially for games that use SecurROM and GFWL. Victoria Complete and my two top tip strategy games, Majesty Gold HD and the Majesty 2 Collection. ![]() GOG was already so picky that some legitimately great games (like reviews 90+% on Steam) were being turned down on their platform. There's no way they're going to be able to salvage that, and becoming MORE picky about what games they add isn't going to help any either, and actually kills really the major selling point of DRM Free which is "preservation in case of Steam goes tits up and Gabe was just lying about there being a way on their end to perma disable the Steam DRM". If someone is a pirate, you're probably never going to buy a GOG game, and by extension you're probably never going to buy the Steam version of it either since it's less effort & don't need to go through an emulator to crack Steam's DRM.ĭRM Free on PC is just not a profitable endevour. Those pirates didn't actually go away, they were just given a decent platform they consider worth spending some money. The PC industry has been through this song and dance before, the platform was practically dying due to rampant piracy and Steam with a combination of its ease of patching (which isn't also a problem for GOG games either due to their installer making it easy) and DRM basically massively hurt piracy by delivering a better product that made people want to spend their money. Being DRM free means pirating the games on there is literally the easiest possible. ![]()
